The Miami Dolphins have announced that they have fired offensive coordinator Mike Sherman after two years with the club.
Joe Philbin's side missed the playoffs with an 8-8 season after losing back-to-back games in their last two matches of the campaign as they struggled to put points on the scoreboard.
Reports emerged that several players on the roster wanted Sherman to be fired and owner Stephen Ross left Philbin with no choice but to comply.
"I would like to thank Mike for his contributions to the Miami Dolphins," Philbin said in statement.
"He is a man of great integrity, dedicated to his family, his team, his players and his profession.
"On behalf of the entire Miami Dolphins organisation I want to wish Mike and his family the very best in the future."
The Dolphins had the 27th ranked offense in the 2013 season.
