New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has undergone successful surgery on his injured left ankle.
Manning sprained his ankle in the final match of the 2013 season and finally decided to have an operation on the injury following unsuccessful attempts to rehabilitate it.
The 33-year-old will miss the start of the off-season programme due to the procedure, but he should be back playing in time for the team's minicamp in the middle of June.
"I'm looking forward to the start of the off-season program on the 21st. I will be in the weight room and the meeting rooms so we can all learn the new offense," Manning said in a statement.
"I got some good work in this week at Duke, and I think it's smart to get this procedure done now so the ankle isn't an ongoing issue."
Manning has not missed a single match for the Giants since becoming their starting quarterback midway through the 2004 season, with his 151 consecutive starts being the longest active streak in the league and the third-longest by a quarterback in NFL history.
