Rex Ryan: 'Geno Smith mistakes were costly'

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan believes that quarterback Geno Smith's two mistakes against the New England Patriots were costly in their one-point defeat.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has admitted that two mistakes from quarterback Geno Smith were crucial in his side's defeat to the New England Patriots.

The Jets fell to a 17-16 loss to Bill Belichick's men as Smith threw an interception to Jamie Collins in the third quarter to set up a touchdown for the Patriots, while he also took a sack in the fourth quarter which led to a blocked field goal.

He told reporters: "It was pretty dang critical. You can't take sacks in those situations. Obviously, we botched the end of that as well."

"He underthrew it. It was a poor throw. That was a big play on their part. [Collins] made a great play. Just a tad underthrown, but it was a big play in the game."

The Jets slumped to 3-12 in their season following their defeat to the Patriots.
