Roger Goodell has confirmed that the NFL would consider allowing players to use medicinal marijuana to treat concussions.
Twenty US states allow the drug to be used for medical reasons, while Colorado and Washington, the home states of the two Super Bowl finalists, both permit recreational use.
"I'm not a medical expert. We will obviously follow signs. We will follow medicine and if they determine this could be a proper usage in any context, we will consider that. Our medical experts are not saying that right now," USA Today quotes the league's commissioner as saying.
"Not only are we going to get better at diagnosis, but we're going to make a difference in the prognosis and the treatment. People are going to get better."
Players suffering from concussions are currently not permitted to return from the injury until they pass a strict set of tests.
