The Philadelphia Eagles have confirmed that they have released cornerback Cary Williams after two seasons at the club.
The 30-year-old signed for the Eagles in 2013, after helping the Baltimore Ravens win the Super Bowl in the 2012 campaign, on a three-year deal worth $17m (£11m).
Williams started all 16 matches in his two seasons with the club, but the standard of his play declined towards the end of the last campaign, leading to the decision to cut him from the roster.
The cornerback was due to cost the Eagles $8m (£5.2m) against the salary cap for next season, and his release will save Chip Kelly's men $6.5m (£4.2m) in cap space ahead of free agency next week.
Williams recorded 59 tackles and two interceptions last season.
