The Philadelphia Eagles have released quarterback Tim Tebow after not naming him in their 53-man roster for the new season.
The 28-year-old had looked likely to make the cut after Eagles head coach Chip Kelly traded Matt Barkley, a fourth-round pick in 2013, to the Arizona Cardinals on Friday.
However, Tebow, who has not featured in a regular-season game since 2012, has been released leaving the Eagles with Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez at quarterback.
Tebow, who has rebuilt his often criticised action over the summer, could still sign for another NFL side even after the release of the 53-man rosters, but there are no reports of interested parties at this stage.
