San Francisco 49ers' Andy Lee wants to test knuckle punt

Andy Lee admits that he wants to test his knuckle punt in a game situation.

San Francisco 49ers punter Andy Lee has admitted that he is keen to attempt the so-called knuckle punt in the final pre-season game against the San Diego Chargers.

The knuckle punt is similar to the knuckle ball in baseball, with Lee punting so that the football moves and swerves in the air, making it harder to catch.

"It's definitely something I want to do in a game to see how it actually happens in a live situation," Lee told CSN Sports.

"In practice, you can do things and you can mimic as much as you can, but you never really know how a new thing you're going to do is going to react in a game situation.

"So I'd love to hopefully be able to pull it out and try it and see if it's something I can work in my regular routine."

Lee's average punt last season was 48.1 yards.
