Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is adamant that his side will not be forced into rebuilding their roster if they hand quarterback Russell Wilson a lucrative contract extension.
Wilson is reportedly set to become the highest-paid player in the NFL in the off-season by signing a deal worth $25m (£16.6m) per year, which will take up a large chunk of the Seahawks' salary cap in the coming seasons.
However, Carroll has insisted that his side have made plans for such a measure and won't be forced into radical changes.
"They had to have a big sea change in their football team because of the financial aspect of that," Carroll told reporters.
"We don't anticipate that. We think we're structured in a way that we can hold on."
The Seahawks will aim to become the first team since the 2004 New England Patriots to defend their Super Bowl crown on Sunday.
