Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has claimed that he has been released by the Tennessee Titans.
The Titans brought in Charlie Whitehurst to act as a backup to starting quarterback Jake Locker yesterday, making Fitzpatrick surplus to requirements at the club.
The 31-year-old started nine games last season due to injuries to Locker, throwing for 2,454 yards with 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, while over his entire career he has 77 starts compared to Whitehurst's four.
However, Fitzpatrick appears to have been ousted by Whitehurst, and he confirmed the news on Friday, telling The AP, "You can say I've been released, yes."
Locker has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, missing 14 games over the past two years, making the Titans' reserve quarterback choice an important one.
