Jay Gruden plays down Robert Griffin III comments

Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden concedes that Robert Griffin III may have gone too far with his comments earlier this week.

Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden has insisted that he had no issue with the majority of Robert Griffin III's comments earlier this week, but he suggested that he may have gone too far.

Griffin was speaking after Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and, while he conceded that he needed to play better, he also suggested that his teammates needed to improve too.

"It's his job to worry about his position, his footwork, his fundamentals, his reads, his progressions, his job at the quarterback position," Gruden told the media.

"It's my job to worry about everybody else. And, yes, everybody else needs to improve. There's no question about it. But it's not his place. His place is to talk about himself and he knows that. He just elaborated a little bit too much."

Griffin completed 23 of his 32 passes for 207 yards on Sunday with one touchdown and two interceptions while he was also sacked six times as he fell to 0-2 since returning from his ankle injury.
