Olympic long jump champion Greg Rutherford has broken the British record after jumping 8.51m in San Diego.
The 27-year-old, who previously shared the record with Chris Tomlinson at 8.35m, is now the outright British record holder.
Rutherford fouled his first two jumps at the Olympic Training Centre, and then reached 8.18m before securing the record-breaking leap with his fourth attempt.
The Brit wrote on Twitter this morning: "It's 10pm in San Diego and 6am in the UK. If you're just waking up I am now the British record holder after jumping 8.51 today in San Diego."
Rutherford, who won gold at the London 2012 Olympics, is expected to feature in this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
