World Anti-Doping Agency to investigate doping allegations

The World Anti-Doping Agency reveals that it will launch an investigation into the allegations made during a German television documentary regarding doping.

The World Anti-Doping Agency has announced that it will investigate doping allegations made during a German television documentary in the past nine days.

Last week, German television channel ARD broadcast a programme that claimed that doping was rife within Russian sport, something which has been strenuously denied by Russian Athletics president Valentin Balakhnichev.

Two days ago, more accusations were made regarding 150 suspicious blood samples, with the tests allegedly going without investigation by the IAAF between 2006 and 2008.

Given the nature of the allegations, WADA president Sir Craig Reedle admitted that they "required close scrutiny".
