Martyn Rooney has said that he must make the 4x400m relay final "worthwhile" after missing the birth of his first child to compete at the World Athletics Championships.
The European 400m champion ran the anchor leg in Great Britain's heat earlier today, sending them through to tomorrow's final in a season-best time.
The 28-year-old told BBC Sport: "Well done to my wife. It's been an interesting couple of days. It's great to become a father for the first time. To miss the birth I have to make it worthwhile."
Rooney failed to make it through to the final of the 400m individual event, despite running a personal best time of 44.45 seconds in the heats.
