Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd has insisted that his novel way of halting play in order to talk to his players was an accident.
Nets guard Tyshawn Taylor proceeded to walk over towards the bench with just 8.3 seconds left of the game against the Los Angeles Lakers, as cameras picked up Kidd mouth "hit me" while he held a cup of soda in front of him.
"Cup slipped out of my hand while I was getting Ty. Sweaty palms. I was never good with the ball," he told ESPN.
"In the heat of the battle, you're trying to get guys in and out of the game, and the cup fell out of my hand."
Taylor insisted that he didn't hear his coach say anything to him while he walked past, and denied purposely walking into Kidd in order to initiate the stoppage in play.
