Amir Khan: 'I will stand and fight Saul Alvarez'

Amir Khan suggests that he will not be fearful of going toe to toe with WBC middleweight champion Saul Alvarez despite the Mexican's size advantage.

Amir Khan has said that his skills will enable him to come out on top in toe-to-toe exchanges with Saul Alvarez when they meet in Las Vegas on May 7.

The British fighter is stepping up two weight divisions to take on the WBC middleweight champion in a bout that has been made at a catch-weight of 155lbs, but the former Olympic gold medallist has suggested that he holds no fear of fighting at close quarters with his Mexican opponent.

The 29-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "It's been tough, obviously, working on these strategies with my trainer Virgil, being more focused, because I know that one little mistake in a fight like this could get me in trouble.

"We're doing everything right. I mean, look, my skills are what's going to win me this fight. I know I'm not going to be stronger than Canelo in any way.

"I'm not going to be thinking I'm stronger than Canelo, but I'm going to stand with him and fight with him. I think my skills in this fight will win me the fight. I don't think that Canelo's experienced speed with combinations and speed with power."

Khan has not fought since May when he defeated Chris Algieri in a welterweight contest in New York.
