WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has posted an image on Instagram that suggests that he could be nearing a deal to face pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr on May 2.
Talks between the two camps have been taking place since the turn of the year, and reports emerged on social media on Tuesday that positive discussions had been conducted in the past few days.
Confirmation of any bout, which would be the most lucrative in the sport's history, is unlikely to come until Mayweather announces the fight, but Pacquiao's comments on Instagram hint that the mega fight may take place in Las Vegas in May.
Accompanied by a picture of him holding his daughter, the 36-year-old wrote: "More than anything that is very important is when you serve the Lord and spend time with the family before the serious training for the upcoming fight. Fight who?????? Hehehe im excited for this!"
Pacquiao last fought in November when he defeated Chris Algieri, while Mayweather has been out of the ring since September when he recorded a second points win over Marcos Maidana.
