Michael Carberry: 'Serious illness gave me a sense of perspective'

England batsman Michael Carberry says that he appreciates his life and career following a serious illness three years ago.

England batsman Michael Carberry has admitted that suffering from a serious illness gave him a sense of perspective.

The 33-year-old, who plays for Hampshire, discovered a blood clot on his lung three years ago.

"It's been a tough couple of years. In a strange way it does give your cricket perspective when you're close to losing your life," Carberry told BBC Sport.

Carberry scored a maiden century for England on the opening day of their Ashes warm-up match in Hobart.
