New Zealand captain Ross Taylor and Andrew Ellis have been hospitalised after suffering from stomach flu and dehydration in Sri Lanka.

Ellis was forced off during the Black Caps' second one-day international against Sri Lanka, but Taylor played on to hit 72 runs for the tourists.

Both players continued to feel ill following the match, with New Zealand coach Mike Hesson confirming that the pair have been taken to hospital for treatment.

He told Sky Sports News: "Andy [Ellis] started to feel a bit crook as soon as he got out there in the heat. We suppose he's eaten something that hasn't agreed with him and he was pretty sick between innings.

"He went out there at the start of our fielding innings and thought he'd give it a go, but pretty quickly he took a turn for the worse and we sent him straight back to the hotel.

"Ross stuck in there well. He was clearly unwell having eaten something or caught a bug somewhere. He hung in there and played a brilliant innings."

A valiant effort from Taylor was in vain as New Zealand slipped to a 14-run defeat to go 2-0 down in the one-day series.
