AB de Villiers has admitted that South Africa's batsman did not perform well enough in their 130-run defeat to India in the World Cup this morning.
Faf du Plessis was the team's top scorer with 55, but the captain was the only other player to make it past 30, while six players were out for less than 10.
De Villiers told BBC Sport: "The run-outs cost us dearly, coming just when we got started with the bat in hand. That's where we lost the game. The bowlers fought back well because we were staring at 350.
"It was a 270-280 par wicket although to restrict India to 307 was a good effort. It was not a good enough performance as a batting unit and now we have to regroup.
"The wicket didn't change, but I still think it was a good toss to win. You can put pressure on the fielding team if you have them out there in the afternoon heat."
South Africa have now won one and lost one of their opening two Pool B matches, having beaten Zimbabwe last week.
