Sri Lanka bowler Suranga Lakmal has been fined by the International Cricket Council for bowling two beamers during his side's win over England at the World Cup.

Lakmal was reported to the match referee after bowling a pair of dangerous deliveries in the final over of the Sri Lankan's nine-wicket triumph in Wellington on Saturday.

The 27-year-old was warned for the first ball before being withdrawn from the bowling attack after the second narrowly evaded England's Jos Buttler.

The ICC claimed that Lakmal, who ended with figures of 1-71, showed "no remorse" for his actions.
