Sri Lanka have continued to chip away at New Zealand's lead on day three of the first Test in Christchurch and go into lunch at 131-2 in their second innings.
The tourists began the day trailing by 219 runs and got off to a nightmare start when Kaushal Silva [33] was caught by Bradley Watling off the bowling of Tim Southee in the opening over.
Kumar Sangakkara replaced Silva at the crease, but lasted just 16 balls before being dismissed by Trent Boult for just one.
Scoring was painfully slow for Sri Lanka as they continued to dig in at the crease, with Dimuth Karunaratne passing his half-century the highlight of the morning session for the batting side.
They did avoid losing any more wickets, however, and went into the pavilion trailing by 172 following a disastrous collapse in their first innings.
