Alex Edmondson hails "idol" Jack Bobridge

Australian cyclist Alex Edmondson hails his "idol" Jack Bobridge after losing the individual pursuit final between the compatriots.

Team Australia cyclist Alex Edmondson has heaped praise on his "idol" Jack Bobridge after he edged the 4,000m team pursuit final this evening.

Both riders made up an all-Australian gold-medal race at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow, with Bobridge winning by just under five seconds to successfully defend his Commonwealth Games title.

Edmondson held the lead for the first 1,000m of the race, but admitted that he couldn't have done any more against the current world record holder.

"Ever since I started cycling I used to look up to Jack - when I was pretty young," Edmondson told Sports Mole.

"He was and still is an idol for me, so to come out here and race against him - there's not more I can do. I left everything out on the boards. It's Jack's night tonight, and he just showed his pure class."

Edmondson and Bobridge were both part of the team pursuit quartet that won a gold medal yesterday.
