Five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld is out of the PDC World Championship after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Rob Cross in the second round.
Van Barneveld started the game in fairytale fashion, landing a 170 checkout in the second leg, and although he squandered a hatful of set darts, he took the opener 3-1 with a 13-darter.
The tide turned in the second as Cross found his groove, the 2018 world champion checking out 128 and 93 on the way to levelling the contest.
Both players traded quality visits during an absorbing third but despite forcing a decider with an 11-darter, Van Barneveld failed to back it up and Cross moved one way from the last 32.
While Van Barneveld battled on gamely, the Dutchman had lost the rhythm which had saw him dominate the early stages, and it allowed Cross to wrap up the match in convincing style.
Earlier in the night, Gabriel Clemens took advantage of a below-par display from Lewy Williams to progress 3-0 win, while Danny Noppert claimed a 3-1 triumph over Jason Heaver.
