Michael van Gerwen has beaten a spirited Peter Wright 7-4 to win the PDC World Championship at Alexandra Palace.
The Dutchman, who lost last year's final to Phil Taylor, raced into a 4-0 lead before 'Snakebite' took out 130 to get his first set on the board.
He then nailed a 100 checkout to halve the deficit in the sixth set, although Van Gerwen had miscounted when trying to finish to gift him the darts.
The seventh set went to a final leg, with Van Gerwen taking out 80 to snatch a 5-2 lead.
The 24-year-old went 6-2 ahead, but Wright refused to accept defeat and came back to win the next two sets.
However, that is where his challenge ended, as Van Gerwen managed to seal his first world title and knock Phil Taylor off top spot in the rankings for the first time since 2008.
