Team GB rider Nick Skelton believes that his horse, Big Star, was "unlucky" not to contest for a medal in the individual jumping final.
Skelton and his compatriots Ben Maher and Scott Brash were unsuccessful in their attempts to clinch a medal after all three knocked over a fence during their respective rounds.
"It was unlucky," Skelton told BBC Radio Five Live. "The horse jumped great, he touched one fence all week, today was the wrong day to do it.
"Everyone thought the horse would win - I did as well. I feel sorry for all the people who came today expecting him to win. But it wasn't to be. [Big Star] is nine so will be 13 [in Rio 2016]. There's time to have another go."
Meanwhile, Switzerland's Steve Guerdat won the gold medal after completing a clear round.
