Didier Deschamps: 'Mathieu Debuchy needs to play to win Euro 2016 place'

France manager Didier Deschamps hints that Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy may have to leave the club in January if he wants to play for his country at Euro 2016.

France manager Didier Deschamps has suggested that Mathieu Debuchy may have to leave Arsenal in order to secure regular first-team football if he is to win a place in his national squad for Euro 2016.

Debuchy has seen himself slip to second choice behind Hector Bellerin at right-back for the Gunners this season and has featured just five times at club level, with only one of those appearances coming in the Premier League.

He did start in the club's 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, but Deschamps has hinted that he needs to be playing more often to have a chance of featuring for the home nation in Euro 2016.

"Mathieu Debuchy is in a position where he is playing very little," The Mirror quotes Deschamps as saying. "When he does play, look at [Wednesday's] result.

"He has a decision to make in December or January. He has not lost his quality, but he is playing very little."

Debuchy signed for Arsenal from Newcastle United in 2014 but made just 10 Premier League appearances for the club on his debut season at the Emirates.
