Mick McCarthy has launched an attack on the FA after they failed to overturn a controversial straight red card for a Nenad Milijas challenge.

Milijas was dismissed from Wolverhampton Wanderers' Boxing Day draw with Arsenal for what appeared to be a late tackle on Mikel Arteta.

McCarthy used a press conference yesterday to stage a PowerPoint presentation on the art of tackling.

"I want your opinions. That's unusual, isn't it?" McCarthy said.

"I've no complaint about Arteta. He's just let Milijas slide in. But does anyone think it's a sending-off?"

After one reporter said that they agreed with the FA, McCarthy launched into a half-hour rant at the decision.

"If ever there is a picture of someone getting the ball, that's it. Look, 99% I've spoken to have said he shouldn't have gone," he said. "I don't think referee Stuart Attwell can see it. I think he has guessed at it.

"They let off Conor Sammon and a lad at Northampton. What is it? Can they not let off too many in one day?

"If I was showing kids how to slide tackle I'd show them this."

Milijas will miss today's clash with Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.
