Aaron Ramsey eyes Arsenal captaincy

Aaron Ramsey says that he would relish the chance to become captain of Arsenal one day.

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has admitted that he would like to become the captain of the club in the future.

The Gunners recently announced that Mikel Arteta would take over the armband following Thomas Vermaelen's departure.

At the age of 20, Ramsey became the youngest player ever to captain Wales, and he has said that he would be delighted to be given the role at Arsenal one day.

"It was a very proud moment to be named the Welsh captain by Gary Speed at such a young age," Arsenal's official website quotes him as saying.

"I was over the moon the first time he told me I was going to be captain of the team. I really enjoyed it - it was the highest we've ever been in the world rankings in that short amount of time when Gary took over.

"The team was going in a good direction. I still feel that Wales will get to a championship one day - hopefully the next one in France. In terms of being a captain here, who wouldn't want to be the captain of Arsenal?"

Ramsey scored Arsenal's second goal during their 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield at the weekend.
