Wojciech Szczesny has revealed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told him that a transfer to Roma would be a "great move".
The Poland international, 25, joined the Serie A side on a season-long deal on Wednesday, and the shot-stopper explained that the decision was a "no-brainer" after speaking to the Gunners boss.
"Look, it was a no-brainer," Szczesny told the club's official website. "I think once the offer from Roma came in, I spoke to the boss Arsene Wenger and he told that it would be a great move for me.
"They play Champions League football and fight for the Serie A, and I spoke to Roma and made my decision very quickly. It's a great opportunity for me to gain valuable experience as a young goalkeeper and try and help the team."
Szczesny slipped behind David Ospina in the pecking order at the Emirates towards the end of the season, and competition for places was only made tougher by the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea.
