While the Blues currently sit in fourth position in the Premier League standings, Frank Lampard has been left frustrated with his backline on numerous occasions this season.

The Chelsea boss is expected to look to strengthen the middle of his defence at the next opportunity, leading to speculation regarding an approach for Gabriel.

According to ESPN, the West Londoners feel that they can edge out Arsenal and Everton in the race for the 22-year-old's signature.

Although it is claimed that Lille would be prepared to sell one of their key men for £30m, the French outfit allegedly hope that interest from the Gunners and Toffees will lead to a bidding war.

Gabriel has made 30 appearances in all competitions this campaign, which include two outings against Chelsea in the Champions League.
