Gareth Southgate downbeat on Alex Pritchard injury

England Under-21s boss Gareth Southgate suggests that he is downbeat over Alex Pritchard's ankle injury.

England Under-21s coach Gareth Southgate has revealed that he is yet to discover the extent of the injury that forced Alex Pritchard off in last night's 1-0 win over Sweden.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was a 55th-minute casualty in Olomouc and reportedly left the stadium on crutches at full time.

The 22-year-old was replaced by Jesse Lingard, who struck the 85th-minute winner that helped breathe fresh life into the Young Lions' campaign, but Southgate admits that Pritchard's injury does not look good.

"We have to have a look," he told Sky Sports News. "It's an ankle injury - didn't look very good when he was coming off."

England, who sit second by a point from Portugal in Group B, take on bottom-of-the-table Italy on Wednesday.
