Jamie Carragher: 'John Stones should stay at Everton'

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher tells John Stones that he should remain at Everton rather than join Chelsea.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has told John Stones that he should resist the lure of Chelsea and remain with Everton.

The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, with recent reports stating that the Blues will fail with a £30m bid.

Carragher is confident that Stones would develop better as a player if he were to stay at Goodison Park.

"For John Stones, some of the nonsense that's been spoken this weekend and before about where he's best," Carragher told Sky Sports News.

"His best place, I can speak as a young centre-back, for the next two years is alongside (Roberto Martinez) at Goodison Park and getting 30, 40 maybe 50 games a season getting experience under his belt.

"No disrespect to Everton but maybe in two or three years when he's physically ready and mature he can move on, he's not ready, the best place for that lad is to keep playing as he did at the weekend and keep doing that."

Stones has made 45 Premier League appearances for the Toffees.
