Everton goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann admits his frustration at a lack of regular football, but insists that he wants to stay at the club.

Everton goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann has told Sports Mole that he is disappointed by his lack of outings for the club.

The 39-year-old joined the Toffees on a free transfer in August but has yet to make an appearance between the posts.

Hahnemann admitted that he thought he would be back-up to fellow American international Tim Howard, but for the majority of this campaign he has found himself third in the pecking order behind Jan Mucha.

When asked whether his situation was a cause for frustration, the goalie replied: "Yes. I knew I was going to come in to a similar situation as at Wolves. I was always going to be back-up to Tim Howard.

"I knew Tim really well as well as Chris Woods, Phil Jagielka and Louis Saha so it was an easy choice to join Everton. It is a massive club.

"Of course I want to be playing more or even be on the bench more but that's just the way it is right now. I've been around the game long enough and I'm mentally strong enough to deal with it. Working your butt off in training is the hardest bit."

However, Hahnemann, who is out of contract at the end of this month, has revealed that he would like to remain with Everton until the end of the season.

"My contract [with Everton] is up in two weeks. I want to stay at Everton until the end of the year and I think they want me to, so it is only a paperwork issue," he added.

"We'll looked at it in the off-season and make a decision then."

Hahnemann has had a 13-year career in England, playing for Fulham, Reading, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton.
