Roberto Martinez pleased with strength in depth

Roberto Martinez believes that the strength of Everton's squad has been made clear when injuries have struck down key players.

Roberto Martinez has revealed his delight with the performances of Everton's fringe players so far this season.

Injuries have often forced Martinez to reshuffle his defence, with the likes of Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines both missing long stretches of games.

Ahead of Monday's meeting with Crystal Palace, Martinez believes that the strength in depth at Goodison Park is key to any success they achieve over the next few months.

"We have a large attacking threat and a very balanced squad, and I am pleased with the way we have coped with injuries - at one time we had five defenders out of the squad and as a team we always cope with everything which is thrown at us," the Toffees boss told reporters.

"You have players waiting for their opportunities and that is why you see players performing so well - no-one can drop their standards or take it easy in games."

Everton can move up to sixth with victory over Palace on Monday.
