Everton announce that midfielder Idrissa Gueye has penned a new long-term contract at Goodison Park.

Everton have announced that Idrissa Gueye has committed his future to the club by penning a new long-term deal.

In August 2016, Everton signed Gueye from Aston Villa and the player has since gone on to become an important part of the first-team squad at Goodison Park.

The 28-year-old has scored three goals in 64 appearances in all competitions, and the Senegalese has revealed that the club's supporters have played their part in his signing a contract until 2022.

Gueye told the club's official website: "Everton is the right place for me and this is why I have signed my new deal. I am very happy to sign a new contract with Everton. It is great for me and for the club and I am very happy.

"I love the fans here. They have been great to me. They made it easy for me to sign this contract. Of course, I spoke with my family and my agent, but the love of the fans was really important and this is a really good thing for me.

"I have enjoyed immensely my time so far at the club, I enjoy working with the manager, his staff and the players here and we are really determined to finish the season strongly."

Gueye's previous deal had been due to expire in 2020.
