Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon insists that he is upbeat despite his side's poor start to the season.

Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon has said that he understands the fans' frustration at the team's poor start to the season.

The Edinburgh club were humiliated in Europe, going down 9-0 on aggregate to Swedish outfit Malmo in a Europa League qualifier, and lost their opening-day Scottish Premier League fixture to Motherwell 1-0.

"I don't know whether they booed the team off or booed me off," PA quotes him as saying. "I understand why the supporters are frustrated. When you lose matches you are never happy. You have to be big enough and strong enough to take it on the chin.

"If they are booing me, it's not relevant from my point of view. That's frustration. If I were up there, I'd probably be doing the same.

"I've said from the start, if I can take this club forward, brilliant, it's a fantastic football club. If I can't, then someone else comes in."

Henri Anier scored eight minutes from time to condemn Hibs to defeat in their opening-day league game against Motherwell at home.
