Huddersfield Town overcome Leeds United

Huddersfield Town overcome Leeds United 3-2 thanks to a late winner from Jon Stead.

Huddersfield Town overcame a resilient Leeds United side 3-2 in the Championship this afternoon.

The hosts created far more chances than their opponents but needed a late Jon Stead goal to seal the three points.

Leeds took the lead after just 70 seconds thanks to Matt Smith, who headed in from Alex Mowatt's corner.

The big striker continued to cause problems but Huddersfield managed to find a quick response when Danny Ward found space on the edge of the box and fired the ball into the top corner.

Adam Hammill came into the game more after that as Town dominated but failed to take the lead before half time.

Hammill was again involved when Huddersfield did take the lead on 62 minutes, seeing his cross flicked into the net by Leeds defender Tom Lees.

Leeds came back again 10 minutes later, with substitute Dexter Blackstock turning in Mowatt's free kick with almost his first touch.

It was the home side who took the spoils though, as Stead fired in after great work on the wing by Sean Scannell.

There was still time for a couple of scares for Huddersfield as Sam Byram and Blackstock came close in the final minutes, but they were able to hold on for the win.
