Daniel Sturridge in contention for Arsenal trip after recovering from illness

Jurgen Klopp hopes to have Daniel Sturridge back involved for Liverpool's meeting with Arsenal, while Joel Matip is another who has a chance of featuring in the squad.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Daniel Sturridge has recovered from illness and will likely be considered for selection against Arsenal.

The English striker last featured for the Reds in their 7-0 win against Spartak Moscow on December 6, missing subsequent games against Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Bournemouth.

Klopp expects Sturridge to be back in contention in time for Friday night's trip to the Emirates Stadium, however, while defender Joel Matip has an outside chance of being fit.

"Daniel Sturridge was ill, but even he could be back," he told reporters. "Matip was back in training yesterday. He is a positive. I'm not sure if he's ready for Arsenal, but the following games coming up, I'm pretty sure.

"We have little reactions to the last game and we need to wait a little bit for different players.

Adam Lallana is also available after a 20-minute run-out against Bournemouth at the weekend, but Alberto Moreno is out until the New Year.
