Wayne Rooney: 'Critics do not bother me'

Wayne Rooney insists that his critics 'do not bother him' after the England captain ended a 17-game wait for an away goal.

Wayne Rooney has insisted that his critics 'do not bother him' after the England captain ended a 17-game wait for an away goal.

The Manchester United skipper scored his side's third at Goodison Park, as Louis van Gaal's side picked up three points and moves them second in the Premier League table.

However, Rooney's form has come under some criticism as of late but the striker reveals that media scrutiny is nothing new.

According to Goal.com, when asked about what he thought about his goal-drought being over, Rooney said: "It depends what the press thinks, they call it what they like. What matters to me is what my manager and teammates think.

"It [criticism] does nothing at all. I'm a strong man, I've had it throughout my career. I just have to keep working hard and try to help the team be successful. It was a very good performance. We were disappointed with [the defeat at] Arsenal and it's been difficult coming here over the years.

"We know we've got a very good squad. Hopefully Arsenal was a one-off and we can keep giving performances like today."

Rooney is United's leading goalscorer this season with six in all competitions.
