Bookmakers take the decision to significantly slash odds relating to Massimiliano Allegri taking charge of Newcastle United at the end of the season.

Bookmakers have taken the decision to slash betting odds being offered for Massimiliano Allegri to take charge of Newcastle United.

Having opted to take a sabbatical after ending his trophy-laden spell at Juventus, Allegri is expected to return to the dugout later in 2020.

While a number of top European clubs have been linked with his signature, Newcastle have emerged as a possibility due to their expected takeover.

Bookmakers have reacted to the developments by deeming it more likely that the Italian will replace Steve Bruce at St James' Park.

Allegri is now priced in the region of 6/1, with former Magpies boss Rafael Benitez remaining as the frontrunner at 3/1.

Newcastle sit in 13th position in the Premier League standings, eight points clear of the relegation zone.
