How Real Madrid could line up against Real Valladolid

Sports Mole looks at how Real Madrid could line up in Sunday's La Liga clash with Real Valladolid.

Real Madrid will be looking to bounce back from their shock Champions League elimination when they visit relegation-threatened Real Valladolid in La Liga this weekend.

Los Blancos lost 4-1 at home to Ajax on Tuesday night to exit the Champions League in the round of 16, while they were also beaten in their last league fixture by Barcelona.

As a result, Madrid are 12 points off the top of La Liga. Their season is effectively over in terms of challenging for silverware, but there is no question that the fans will be looking for a response.

The match could well be Santiago Solari's last as head coach, with former Los Blancos bosses Zinedine Zidane and Jose Mourinho both strongly linked with the position at the Bernabeu.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at how a wounded Madrid could line up against Valladolid, who currently sit 16th in Spain's top flight.

POSS RM XI vs. VAL

Out: Vinicius Junior (torn ligament in leg), Dani Carvajal (torn muscle), Lucas Vazquez (hamstring), Sergio Ramos (suspension)
Doubtful: Gareth Bale (ankle)

The defeat to Ajax on Tuesday night brought extra damage, with Vinicius Junior, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez all picking up injuries against the Dutch giants.

Vinicius could actually miss the remainder of the campaign having torn a ligament in his leg, while Carvajal has a muscular injury and Vazquez a hamstring problem.

Madrid will also once again be without club captain Sergio Ramos. The centre-back missed the game with Ajax due to a European suspension, but he will now serve a domestic ban, meaning that Nacho should continue alongside Raphael Varane in central defence.

Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio replaced Vinicius and Vazquez against Ajax and the pair are expected to be handed starting roles against Valladolid, joining Karim Benzema in the final third of the field. Bale is a slight doubt with an ankle problem but should make the XI.

Solari could decide to change his midfield with Dani Ceballos and fit-again Marcos Llorente both options, but it seems likely that Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric will continue in the middle of the park.

Alvaro Odriozola is in line to make the XI as a replacement for Carvajal, while Sergio Reguilon should keep out Marcelo on the opposite side.
