Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra has insisted that his side will claim the La Liga title this season despite Barcelona reducing their lead to just five points.

Pep Guardiola's side had recorded a 2-0 win at Sevilla on Saturday before Real conceded a last-minute equaliser and were held 1-1 at home by Malaga a day later.

That result left Jose Mourinho's men eight points ahead with 11 games to go, before Barca further reduced the gap to five with a 5-3 win over Granada on Tuesday evening.

Despite the slight closing of the gap, 27-year-old Diarra remains unconcerned by events which are outside of his control.

He told Diario AS: "We only deal with ourselves because we know full well that we have our destiny in our hands. If we win games, we will be champions. This is a fact.

"As we say in France, there is no fire at home. It means that no serious harm has been done. We need not worry because Madrid are first in the table."

Diarra, who moved to the Bernabeu for £20m from Portsmouth in 2009, has made 21 appearances this season.
