Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has refused to dwell on offensive chanting that was heard during Sunday's 3-1 win over West Ham United at White Hart Lane.

Sections of West Ham's support directed anti-Semitic abuse at the home fans based on Thursday's events in Rome that saw one Spurs supporter stabbed.

"I prefer not to mar the performance with a situation like this," Villas-Boas said.

"You know the animosity there is between Tottenham and West Ham and as long as it doesn't reach stupidity it is a great, great rivalry of two London clubs.

"It would be extremely unfair for me to mar the performance of the players but understanding that a couple of situations are avoidable but we can't decipher the true meaning of what they were saying."

Jermain Defoe grabbed a brace, while Gareth Bale was also on the scoresheet as Tottenham moved up to seventh place in the Premier League table.
