Jan Vertonghen believes Harry Kane should snub England Under-21s' Euro campaign

Jan Vertonghen believes that his Tottenham Hotspur teammate Harry Kane should have a summer break instead of playing for England Under-21s in the Euros.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has expressed his belief that it would be wise for teammate Harry Kane to have a rest this summer instead of competing in the European Championship for England Under-21s.

The prolific striker is said to be keen on travelling with Gareth Southgate's team to the Czech Republic in June, but Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is concerned that Kane could hamper his fitness by playing.

It has been reported that the Argentine coach will hold talks with the Football Association regarding Kane before giving the striker the green light to play in the Euros.

"It's difficult for me to judge," the London Evening Standard quotes Vertonghen as saying. "Of course England want him.

"He is a brilliant striker and he can be the main man, but I think he needs his rest for next season. It's his call and I know a player always wants to play but sometimes you have to be careful."

Kane has netted 26 goals in all competitions so far this season.
