Matthew Etherington "definitely leaving" Stoke City in summer

Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington reveals that he is "definitely leaving" the Britannia Stadium when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Matthew Etherington has announced his intention to leave Stoke City when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old has made 174 appearances for the Potters since joining from West Ham United in 2009, but only five league starts under Mark Hughes this term.

"I am definitely leaving," said Etherington in The Mirror. "I have not heard anything from the club, which is fair enough, I have not played a lot lately.

"I will have been there five years in the January just passed and it has been a great time so I am really sad it is coming to an end. But there are no hard feelings. I think they are looking to go a different way, which is absolutely fine."

He added: "I am 32. I don't expect my career to be stopping, I am pretty confident of getting a club soon. If I'm lucky I have three or four years left. I might even go abroad, we will have to see what happens, but it is something I would look into."

Etherington came off the bench in Stoke's 1-1 draw with Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.
