Ex-Tranmere Rovers boss Ronnie Moore 'embarrassed' by betting debacle

Tranmere Rovers manager Ronnie Moore opens up about the betting debacle that cost him his job.

Former Tranmere Rovers manager Ronnie Moore has expressed his embarrassment at the betting debacle that cost him his job at the club.

The Football Association handed Moore a one-month suspended ban and a £2,000 fine for breaching regulations by betting on a competition that his team was involved in.

"I'm embarrassed because as a manager of Tranmere Rovers Football Club, I should have known," he told Sky Sports New. "So I hold my hands up, there is no doubt about that. I should have known and I didn't know, but is that worth losing my job over?

"It's actually cost me my job and it's cost me £130,000 - and then I get fined here as well."

Moore revealed that he made the bet as part of an accumulator placed on behalf of his sister-in-law.

The bet which cost him his job, a £1 double bet on Tranmere to beat Colchester United in League One, is said to have paid out just £3.93.
