Audi-owned Sauber is not giving in to Valtteri Bottas' calls for a swift decision regarding his place on the 2025 grid.
Ahead of the US Grand Prix, Bottas made it clear that he needs a definitive answer from team boss Mattia Binotto soon, noting that even alternative options outside of Formula 1 will be closed off by the time Christmas arrives.
"They have time, but I have to push for a decision soon," Bottas said.
"A month ago, we were still saying that the decision should be made as soon as possible. At some point I have to give the team a deadline."
However, Binotto responded in Austin by saying, "We are in no hurry and can afford the luxury of waiting."
In an interview with Sky Italia, Binotto confirmed that Mick Schumacher remains a genuine contender to partner Nico Hulkenberg in 2025, which could create an all-German lineup for Audi.
"I met with him (Schumacher) on Friday. I get on very well with Mick and I told him - don't decide anything yet.
"So he's on the list, but it has to be a decision of reason, not a decision of emotion."
Schumacher, 25, has been off the Formula 1 grid since being dropped by Haas for underperformance at the end of 2022.
Former Haas boss Gunther Steiner, now working as a TV pundit, commented from Austin: "It will be difficult for him to find a place, but I think it would be good because he has something to prove."
