Lance Stroll has acknowledged that Aston Martin is reassessing its strategy for developing their underperforming 2024 F1 car.
Despite Fernando Alonso's string of podiums last year, he recently stated in Monaco that Aston Martin is now trailing behind the top five teams.
"Right now it's very difficult for us," Stroll, the son of the team's owner Lawrence Stroll, confided to Le Journal de Montreal during a sponsorship event near his hometown.
"We are not very competitive," he shared before the Canadian Grand Prix, "but I hope that here, on a different track, we can be a little more competitive."
The team had entered the 2024 season with a bold agenda for ongoing car improvements. However, it is becoming increasingly apparent that several of these innovations are falling short of expectations.
"We understand where the problems are in the car," asserted the 25-year-old Stroll.
"I think we made decisions and set directions during the winter and we learned that we have to change our ideas a little."
Stroll conceded that the rest of the season might prove trying as they work through these challenges.
"Last year, we were here to score points and even aspire to the podium," he reflected.
"At the end of this weekend, just scoring points would be a good result for us. But there are still a lot of races, it's a long season with 24 events, so we are trying to push and find upgrades for the car."
