Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone reportedly wants to extend the 'double points' system to the last three races of the 2014 season.
The 83-year-old had initially wanted the final race in Abu Dhabi to carry double the points of any other Grand Prix in the calendar in an effort to maintain interest until the end of the campaign.
Ecclestone is now keen on extending that scheme to two preceding races in the USA and Brazil, and has written to all 11 Formula 1 teams, according to BBC Sport.
However, for the proposal to go ahead, it needs to be unanimously ratified by all the teams participating in the sport in 2014.
