World champion Max Verstappen wins the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix, claiming the lead in the closing stages to edge out Charles Leclerc.

World champion Max Verstappen gets his first victory of 2022 on the board by winning the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver failed to score in Bahrain last week after stopping during the closing stages, but the Dutchman made up for that disappointment with success on Sunday.

Verstappen was locked in a dual with Charles Leclerc during the final laps, the Ferrari driver looking to make it successive wins and open up a clear lead in the title race.

However, with three laps remaining, Verstappen came out on top in a battle of wits and DRS, pulling off a pivotal move at the first corner before crossing the finish line marginally more than half a second in front.

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Jnr claimed the final podium spot, with pole sitter Sergio Perez having to make do with fourth position after the introduction of a safety car immediately after his first pit stop undid his earlier strong work in the lead.

The British trio of George Russell, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton were fifth, seventh and 10th respectively, the latter of those already 29 points adrift of Championship leader Leclerc.
